In AS I was able to create a music magazine where as, in A2 I made a horror film trailer as well as a horror poster. By using the skills I learned from AS, I was and still am able to produce a well thought out and skillful piece of work.
I learned how to use a camera properly last year, and I am now able to take clear, photogenic images to use for my poster. The music magazine I made helped me practice taking good photos as I needed to take many at one time, trying out different angles and shots for example, a close up shot or a low angle. This meant I was able to get the best possible photograph to fit my magazine cover properly and make it look as professional as possible. Therefore, I am now experienced in using a camera correctly. The picture taken for the horror poster was experimented with, the lighting was taken into account as this can transform a photo from weak to very strong, this means that now when taking pictures for the horror poster we will use a lighting kit to get the most realistic images. Also, since AS I have realized that using a camera properly means playing with the settings for example, working with or without flash or zooming in or out.
Furthermore, compared to the music magazine I made last year, the horror poster as well as the trailer are much better pieces of work. This is because I have since been able to practice my skills and apply them to my products. By considering things like the mise-en-scene in a photo it can make it much more effective. For example, my music magazine was of the rock genre therefore, I made my model wear a black t-shirt and red checked shirt and for both the trailer and poster I made the model up with blood and used low-key lighting to enhance the horror aspect of it. This enhances the typical conventions of both the rock music genre and horror movie genre.
When it came to the planning of the horror poster, we were able to make choices on lighting, clothing, location etc. In the first task in AS, the college magazine, there were certain restrictions like a lack of good, effective location.
I was also able to practice my photoshop skills and apply them to my posters. By using adobe photoshop I can put different fonts or even create my own using an internet website and downloading it to the product. Then adding strokes, fades or textures to the writing to make it more horror conventional and typically "rocky".
In conclusion, I have progressed well from AS to A2 because of the many skills I have retrieved and put into practice.
